As a Great War veteran and Delville Wood survivor, my Grandfather had seen Delville Wood before, during and after the battle and lamented not only the loss of life but also the destruction of a wooded area, the utter devastation and desolation of a landcape once serene and full of plant, bird and animal life.  He made a point to beautify his surroundings and this is his story as a stationmaster and a gardener.
